Senior Manager/Associate Director, Alliance Management

Position Summary:

Contributes to Corporate Development’s mission of identifying, securing, and managing partnerships with public and private sector funders, co-developers, and collaborating businesses. Responsible for creating effective, productive, value-generating, and sustainable business relationships; maintain and enhance Achaogen’s reputation as a desired business partner.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Guide interactions with partners to ensure alignment of goals, efficient fulfilment of agreed-upon objectives and minimization of resource diversions.
  • Lead communication between internal teams and business partners, coordinate activities of joint governing bodies, and maintain alignment of decision making, risk management, and resource prioritization.
  • Contribute to the strategy for engaging various partners (public, private, or government) and facilitate presentations, meetings, and regular communications to successfully establish new collaborative relationships and strengthen existing relationships.
  • Collaborate with commercial, financial, legal, Project Management, human resources, and technical team members and senior management to ensure the health of partnerships while protecting company business interests.
  • Ensure satisfaction and appropriate interpretation of government, partner, subcontractor, and internal customer specifications/statements of work, deliverables, and timelines.
  • Coordinate written and oral reporting to partners / review of same from partners to formalize project status, governance decisions, assigned action items, and project plan changes.
  • Work cross-functionally to ensure buy-in for program plan and budget modifications, and secure required resources for successful execution of same.
  • Track and manage all contractual deliverable deadlines, payment deadlines based on projected milestones, termination dates, authorized uses of funding, and other key contractual dates/occurrences.
  • Review and approve contracts and related subcontracts, consulting agreements, invoices, etc. for protection of the company's contractual posture, compliance with all relevant regulations, and adherence to company policy.
  • Advise project teams and management of contractual rights and obligations.
  • Monitor the landscape of non-dilutive funding (NDF) opportunities for potential applicability to Achaogen projects.
  • Lead and coordinate the drafting of written proposals with project team members and other business functions to successfully submit proposals that satisfy specified criteria and strict deadlines.

 

Preferred Experience:

  • 6+ years’ work experience and 3+ years of management/successful leadership.
  • Work developing and maintaining business-to-business partnerships in the pharmaceutical/biotech field.
  • Negotiation and management of business agreements or contracts.
  • Project management.

 

Preferred Education:

  • Masters Degree or greater in a scientific discipline, or in business administration with substantive technical experience.

 

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Experience with pharmaceutical development.
  • Writing skills to clearly articulate both technical and business concepts.
  • An understanding of pharmaceutical/biotech industry operations and business.
  • Work on abstract problems across the functional areas of business.
  • Act independently to determine methods and procedures on new assignments.
  • Able to influence a cross-functional internal team and various external stakeholders.
  • Effective negotiation skills.
  • Understand, integrate and communicate the long-term vision and purpose of multi-year strategic relationships.
  • Synthesize salient technical points of discussion from complex conversations or documents.
  • Demonstrate professionalism in personnel management and teamwork.
  • Committed to the values of integrity, accountability, transparency, scientific rigor and drive.
  • Available to travel domestically and internationally.
  • Current US work authorization required.
