Scientist II, Discovery Analytical

Position Summary:

We seek a highly motivated and versatile scientist to lead all analytical efforts supporting the early research team in the advancement of our drug discovery programs.  The successful candidate will need to navigate the cross-functional boundaries of biology and chemistry to identify and implement highly innovative approaches to inform compound identification and design.  This role will also serve as a liaison to the larger, internal analytical and bioanalytical groups.

Essential Functions:

  • Identifies and implements innovative analytical approaches, including but not limited to, mass spectrometry-based methods to determine drug activity/potency/mechanism of action.
  • Analyzes complex mixtures, including fermentation broths to inform the identification of and quantitation of, novel metabolites.
  • Develops and implements strategies to separate and purify novel metabolites from complex mixtures.
  • Evaluates and selects new technologies which can accelerate internal research.
  • Participates on multiple research project teams.
  • Effectively leverages the internal bioanalytical and analytical groups to ensure research projects advance rapidly.


Essential Experience:

  • Extensive experience with HPLC, advanced mass spectroscopy (triple quadrupole, TOF) and other advanced analytical techniques (small and large molecule).
  • Track record of applying analytical techniques to answer biological questions (enzyme inhibition, protein identification, metabolite identification).
  • Experience working closely with medicinal chemistry to help decipher structure-activity-relationships and identify small-molecule physical property trends.
  • Demonstrated track record of innovation through research programs or impactful publications.
  • Able to manage multi-disciplinary tasks.
  • Sustained demonstration of technical proficiency, scientific creativity, collaborations with others and independent thought.
  • Possesses exceptional ability to analyze and present applicable data
  • Current US work authorization required.


Preferred Experience:

  • Experience working with molecules with weak or no UV chromophore.
  • Hands-on experience with biochemical assay development.
  • Direct experience with biological techniques (i.e. tissue culture or microbiological culture) a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in an interdisciplinary, fast-paced environment.



  • Requires a Ph.D. in chemistry, biology, biochemistry or a related discipline with 5+ years of experience or a B.S. with extensive (15+ years) of industry research experience and a track record of innovation.
